NBA Street Homecourt Review

HE'S ON FIRE!

Many will remember the "He's on fire!" quote from NBA JAM, which was my favorite "crazy" basketball game. I did not play NBA Street from the series so this is my first Street game and I'm impressed.

Gameplay: 9/10
Ok. I'm not into NBA or Basketball, except I do play the sports sometimes but I'm not into Basketball simulation. I played the NBA 2k and live series before but it bores me. Homecourt is different. It's like NBA JAM, with crazy moves and dunks and no official rules. The controls are pretty easy to pick up and I'm finding more and more crazy moves each time I play the game.

I read that EA Big has redone the game from scratch and they took the street series, refined it but fans of the street series told me they've reduced the number of moves.

Apart from the usual way to score in a basketball game, you can do tricks which will increase this gamebreaker meter, and when you've reach the max, you can do a special where in this time limit, you can perform as many tricks as you can which will lead to additional points when you finally score. The thing is, when you're doing tricks, you're vulnerable with the ball being stolen and the opposite team can counter your gamebreaker. This risk and reward system works very well.

Graphics: 10/10
From presentation, models of players, environment to animations of the players, everything is top notch. This is truly a game to show off nex-gen graphics. I love the filter effects on the game as well.

Sound: 9/10
Not much to talk about the sound. Everything is great but the voices of the players are repetitive sometimes.

Value: 9/10
The game features a "career" mode where you play against challenges of other teams just like any other sports game. There's online mode as well and there's a mode where you can switch off the crazy moves and play a normal basketball game.

Final thoughts:
Homecourt is an amazing experience for me. Fans of the series might be disappointed because they redefined the game from scratch but at least rent it. For me, it's a must buy if you love games like NBA JAM.

Final Score 9.2/10

Calling All Cars! review

No idea what Calling all Cars! was about; except for the hoo-haa over David Jaffe being pissed off at Gamespot review.

Read on to know why I think Calling All Cars! is the best budget game for PSN yet. Main reason that I have no idea what "Calling All Cars" is except it has to do with prisoners (from screenshots), is because I've never heard of this term (I'm not American) until this game came up, then I heard it in a movie which simply means Calling all Police Cars.

Gameplay: 10/10
So this game is simply a "Police and Thief" game; Prisoners escape, Police chases them and put them in jail. It's a very simple idea and it works very well.

Rules are simple. Your aim is to see who is able to put most of them in jail in a given time and there are 3 ways to do it. The most difficult way will gain you 3 points, medium difficulty will gain you 2 points, and the easiest way will gain you 1 point. There are 4 players/cars in the game and there's an arrow on your car to let you know where the prisoner is. When 1 car hits the one with the prisoner, the prisoner will fly out from that car and anyone else can catch him and try to put him in jail. There are also 3 different weapons to use against each cars.

You can play up to 4 players split screen offline multiplayer, and split screen online.

Graphics: 10/10

The game is in cartoon style and it looks fabulous. Most stuff in the game are destructible. There are also a variety of vehicles to choose from. The graphics are simply perfect for its gameplay design.

Sound: 8/10
Music sounds great and sound effects are as comical as Road Runner's. It's in Dolby Digital no less.

Value: 8/10
Only 4 maps are the major complain but at only $10, it's pretty worth it but you'll just wish there's more maps.

Overall: 8.9/10
So was the Gamespot's review accurate? Yes and No. Gamespot seems to be comparing budget games with other big guns which should not be the case since this costs only $10. This game is simple, fun, highly addictive and suitable for all ages.

My Spiderman 3 Game Review

Hey Peter, why do you look like crap?

Spiderman 3 is more like a game on its on rather than a movie tie in. Below are my opinions and review:

Gameplay: 9/10
The first 10 mins of tutorial is the most horrible part of the game. Actually the series of spiderman games all have horrible tutorial levels. Gets the job done though.

I'm pretty impressed with the web swinging which is what sold me SM3. The camera is kinda annoying and the first thing I did was to change them to invert so it is more natural to me. Not sure about you guys but inverted camera controls seems to be in most games which I'm used to. The fighting mechanics are pretty straightforward.

Difficult bosses are actually great because they are supposed to be some Super Villians while you are a Super Hero! The game has some GTA "open missions" going on; I hear a police siren, switch on spider sense, the police car is highlighted, follow it and solve crime!

Graphics: 7/10
Spidey looks the best, most bosses look great, J. Jonah Jameson looks great, Harry Osborne looks great, Eddie Brock looks great, Mary Jane looks ok. But why?! Why does Tobey, I mean, Peter Parker looks like crap?! Ok, maybe Peter Parker looks kinda crappy in the comics but can't they at least make the main character look better?

Overall, the graphics are acceptable as it has do many things going on; buildings, bridges, cars, pedestrians etc. Frame rate became choppy at times but I still find it pretty acceptable. There are no reflections of people on windows though, just reflections of buildings. Not so next gen eh?

Sound: 8/10
Voices of the original actors are great. Bruce Campbell, the narrator, annoys me though. Sound effects are ok. Music scores are from the movie so that can't go wrong.

Value: 7/10
Spiderman 3; the movie owned by Sony with the Playstation 3 font. You would have though it'll utilize the Cell or Bluray but no. It has no advantage over the Xbox 360's version except for the Green Goblin character in the Collector's edition, and the loading will be faster since it installs about 2GB of data on the harddisk.

So if you own both the PS3 and Xbox 360, and don't care about collector edition, go with the Xbox 360 since it's cheaper. I only have a PS3 and of course I got the Collector's Edition for the Green Goblin. I feel that PS3 "normal" version should be the Collector's Edition. Reason? Come'on we bought the console with Spiderman 3 fonts!

Final thoughts:
Sure, the game do have some glitches but most importantly, it's fun. When I first play it, I spent half an hour swinging through the cities. You can't do that with GTA. If you like the movie, if you want to play as Spiderman, if you want to beat up Super Villians, get the game. (Get the Collector's edition if you want to play as New Goblin as well)

Final Score: 8.3/10

Old Solid Snake. (incomplete)

I'm trying out a new method similar to "carving" but I'm using only primitive methods with cuts and extrudes, unlike using old methods of creating smooth 3D. This is old Snake from Metal Gear Solid 4. I think this method works pretty well since he's an old man. For the hair and mustache, it's my first time using the "Fur and Hair" from Max.
